Signed Contract (only 3 months left)

As of today, we have a signed contract in hand for the Co-op apartment that we have been trying to buy for the last 2 months! Woohoo! I've included a few photos in this blog of the actual apartment on the first day we viewed it. You'll notice it has an A/C window unit, a kitchen, and a hallway (ah yes, the little things in life)!  We made the offer on the property back in July, but these negotiations have been a challenge to say the least. Many of you helped us get this far with the application process and we just wanted to say THANK YOU to all of our business references, personal references, past employers, bank officials, past landlords, current landlord, sending church, sponsoring church, and the little old man behind me in line at the post office who let me borrow his pen. Our closing day is scheduled to be December 20.

We are now at the mercy of the Co-op Board (the other owners). If they do not approve our Board application then the deal is over and we must start over. The other owners in the building (The Board) can reject us for any number of reasons after they interview us. We've been told Richard Nixon was rejected from a NYC Co-op Board, because the other owners...for whatever reason...didn't want to live by him. Madonna was also rejected by a NYC Co-op because the other owners were skeptical that she would change the culture of the building too much. Legally, they're not to reject you over race, religion and creed, but it seems that if they don't like your "type"...then you don't get approved (hopefully, that's not the case anymore).

We drove to the Bronx to turn in our last batch of documents, bank statements, and references tonight for our future apartment. A trip that usually takes us an hour and a half took nearly 3 hours because of the traffic. Some days go the way you plan, other days you are stuck in NYC traffic during rush hour (which doesn't seem like anyone is really rushing) because of the rain, wrecks, and flooding. Becky was a trooper though. She sat in the back with Maria (and her bucket). She stretched the story of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears for 2 hours straight. I didn't think those crazy bears were ever gonna find that crafty, little girl who wanted everything juuuuust right. Hats off to Becky!

On the way home we stopped and ate at McDonald's where Maria found a pair of Batgirl...er...I mean... Super Maria glasses in her happy meal. She put them on and started yelling, "I'm going to save the day!" And believe me, today needed some saving after being all cooped up in the car on a rainy day for such an unusual amount of time. This is where I give credit to Ronald McDonald for making the move to establish their breakfast menu at all hours of the day. Here's looking at you, Ronny. You'll always be more than just another clown.

Finally, tonight we left the Bronx knowing that we will soon be living in the Bronx and won't have to make this tiresome trip anymore. God is making a way for us. We pray that our Board application is approved within the next month and that we could possibly move in right around Christmas.
